Generally speaking, there are two components that have to be present for your child to have a successful rehab experience:
1. They need to be ready to quit using alcohol/drugs.
2. You need to choose a quality rehab facility that addresses all factors of addiction.
As a parent, you know a ton about your child’s drug or alcohol use. You know when they use, what he or she is like when using, and what they’re like when they sober up. You also know how destructive their lifestyle has become. But do they?
If your child is truly ignorant to the dangers of their lifestyle or in denial about their addiction, they won’t see any reason to go to rehab. If you force your child to go to rehab, chances are, they won’t make the most of the opportunity and they’ll go right back to using once they’re out.
So step one is to discover how to use all the information you know about your child’s drug/alcohol use and learn ways you can help them get into rehab.
As for selecting a treatment program once your child is ready, you should know that not all rehabs are the same. Some offer amazing opportunities to treat the whole individual and heal them from the inside out.
